From a young age, I was drawn to the beauty of nature. Whether it was the intricacy of a spider’s web, the rustling of the leaves of a tall tree, the whistling of the wind in the tall grasses, a full moon on a still night, a crackling campfire with a blanket of stars overhead or the majestic Rocky Mountains with a stream of water rushing down from them. They are all images that stirred my soul: a deep feeling within that I was being shown a greatness, an awe and wonder which did not need words.
Psalm 96:11-12 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and what fills it resound; let the plains be joyful and all that is in them; let all the trees of the forest rejoice.
I would experience it, aware what a gift was placed right before my eyes. This feeling was nurtured in me as child as our family vacations would consist of camping in the great outdoors. I was fortunate to experience the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the wonder of the Grand Canyon, the geysers of Yellowstone, the beauty of the Black Hills and the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Louise in Banff, Canada.
My soul understood what my mind did not. God is always around, always speaking, whether in the tiny leaf, a glorious sunset or a blanket of white snow. The breath of God speaks if we listen with our hearts. To take time to be with God, to let Him in, to silence ourselves. In the quiet, that is when He will speak the loudest.
Job 12:7-10 But now ask the beasts to teach you, and the birds of the air to tell you; or the reptiles on earth to instruct you. Which of these does not know that the hand of God has done this? In this hand is the soul of every living thing and the life breath of all mankind.
