Symphony

This past Valentine’s weekend, we went away to stay in the city for a couple nights. It seems almost counter intuitive, from the smaller country town to the big city to rest. We stayed in a Boutique Hotel built in the early 1900’s full of character and beauty. A breathtaking two story lobby brimming with antique furniture, grand chandeliers, majestic columns and a massive fireplace. It is also home to an athletic club which includes a beautiful swimming pool with original mosaic tile work.

Right in the heart of the city with the chiming of the light rail bells and sirens that would go by. However, it was a place of rest for us as we relaxed into our beautiful surroundings. The city is connected by many sky ways, making walking in the cold winter rather enjoyable and comfortable.

One highlight of our weekend was visiting the Theater and experiencing Mozart’s Symphony. The different instruments played in such a way to complement each other and tell a story that draws you in and moves your senses. A feeling of another era, another time connecting to the present. Speaking with no words but conveying an entire story. To engage the imagination through listening to beautiful music

This was our 28th Valentine’s day we have celebrated in our years together. What I noticed this weekend that while it was nice to connect in conversation over dinner, the special times were when we just enjoyed being together. Not using words, but being with each other, not to do a lot of things, but to relax together; to read a book, to sit by the fireplace, to enjoy a cocktail at the bar, to take a swim, to be quiet. Where words are not needed, but much is said.

The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
