Light

“Let there be light” and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-5

The Lord has been bringing light to me in the darkness. It is an awareness that God is always there, always listening, and always working in my life, in the big things to the small details; He is present. He knows the desires of my heart and He walks with me in my journey of life.

He is there in my walk through Lent, where I travel with the Lord though the desert. I draw deeper into the word of God and He shows me the beauty that is there, in the dryness of the desert, there is life, there is light, and it is good. The beauty of a cactus with its prickly exterior and hard shell, it contains water inside and brings forth beautiful flowers, it stretches up to the sky, it thrives in the light.

He is there in my walk though the Triduum, the three days that mark the end of Lent, from the Last Supper to the Resurrection of the Lord. The three days when the light overcame the darkness, He brings me along through the scriptures, I journey with Him and hear the words He spoke back then that echo in my heart today. He meets me where I am, and He shows me that life continues when there is darkness, that hope springs forth when all seems lost, that a great light is poured forth, and it is good.

Rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, the darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; But upon you the Lord shines, and over you appears His glory. Isaiah 60:1-2

The view from my home is such that I experience the sunrise from my front window, which reaches all the way to the back field, shining forth a brilliant radiance in the morning; and in the evening, I experience the vivid sunset from my back window, which dances across the sky in vast colors, as it finally rests itself in slumber. I see the light, and it is good.

From the rising of the sun to its setting, let the name of the Lord be praised. Psalm 113:3
