Light

The sunrise is later each day and the sunset is earlier each day, and I can feel the change of the seasons from summer to autumn. It ushers in a sense of routine and a turning towards the Lord.

It is an invitation to fall back into exercises that seem to be different than the ones I practiced during the long, sunny summer days when time seem to stretch farther and go at a different pace. To practice discipline and order in my day, and offer it to the Lord, to offer Him the first fruits of my day. To savor the time with the Lord in the darkness of the early morning because He brings great light to my day. To reflect on Him as my day progresses, and to be thankful that He walks with me.

To offer everything to Him, the words that I speak, the thoughts in my mind, my entire being, I offer up to the Lord. That which does not glorify Him, I bring to Him for His mercy and love and my healing.

I sit with Him in silence and listen. I follow His lead, and in His gentle way, He whispers to me, “My daughter, it is good that you are here. Follow the light of the Gospels, meditate where I lead you, you will find the living Word that speaks to you.” I begin my day in the light and for this, my heart is grateful and at peace.

For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. Encourage one another and build one another up. 1 Thes 5:5-6,11
