Fiat in Latin means, “Let it be done,” a proclamation of one’s yes. This coming Friday, March 25th, the Church will celebrate a great feast day, The Annunciation of the Lord. It is a day when the fiat of Mary was spoken to God. Mary’s yes to consent that she would become the Mother of Jesus, the Son of God. Her yes echoes throughout time and has changed the world.
Through a heavenly visit by the angel Gabriel, it was announced to Mary that she was chosen by God to be the mother of His Son. Mary has dialogue with the angel, how can this be? He provided the answer, the power of the Holy Spirit will overshadow you. He told her that nothing was impossible with God. Mary gave her yes, her consent, and her life was changed forever.
Her, “let it be done,” leads her to the foot of the cross, where she will hear the last words of Christ, “It is finished.” Life to death to new life.
My yes will lead me to take up my cross. The Lord provides for me all I need. It is through His grace that I give my fiat, my yes. My guardian angel does not leave my side and accompanies me on the journey.
When I fall under the weight of the cross, the Lord was there first, face down in the dirt. He gets up and with His help, so do I. The path is not an easy one, it is paved by blood, sweat and tears.
I am chosen for this moment in time, to do His will, to follow Him. I desire to give my yes, and to let my yes be yes. To persevere on the way where He calls me to go. May I die to myself so I can live, may I receive strength and courage, and may I serve and love those in my path.
All things are made new through Him. I give all praise, glory and thanksgiving to the Lord. Amen.
I dedicate this writing to peace in the world, and an end to war. Love never fails and will dispel the darkness. Blessed Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
