Thanksgiving is a special time of the year. It beckons one to slow down and savor the time spent with family and friends. A time to be thankful for all we have experienced in life. All of the memories woven together, like a beautiful rug or a warm sweater, which are held together with love to offer comfort and warmth.
I find myself reminiscing to times past as I treasure the moments that seemed so ordinary, but truly were sweet and beautiful. The memories just seem to come to me, bringing a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. To times spent together as a family and as dear friends, I imagine the food, the laughter, the games played and the dessert and coffee, a moment caught in time of being with each other.
As I prepare for our family Thanksgiving dinner this year, I look forward to the time that is to be spent together, as this is the treasure to be held deep in my heart. I don’t hold it in my hands, but I will let it pass by, that way the memories are made, and they will return to me, letting me experience the moment in time all over again.
Gratitude is the memory of the heart. St. Mary Euphfasia.
