The Epiphany of the Lord

This upcoming weekend we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, and the scripture reveals the visit of the Magi. They journey a great distance to seek the promised Messiah. It is their desire to honor Him and bring Him gifts.

What distance do I travel to seek Him? It is a great question to ponder this New Year. I long to learn more through spiritual reading, where the Lord reveals something new to me. I long to follow His light, which burns brightly like a great star, and guides the way to Him. I long to honor Him by laying down my gifts at His feet and doing Him homage.

They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house, they saw the child with Mary, His mother, They prostrated themselves and did Him homage. Then they opened up their treasures and offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. MT 2:10-11

The Lord calls me on this life long journey, always seeking Him and directing me to the sheer wonder and awe of God.

St. John Chrysostom reveals: “For by gold the power of a king is signified” and I pray, Lord, I lay this gold at your feet and acknowledge you are God, the One who is; the Creator of all. “By frankincense the honor of God” and I pray, Lord I lay this frankincense at your feet and offer You my praise and honor as my Lord and Savior. “By myrrh the burial of the body” and I pray, Lord I lay this myrrh at your feet and remember Your crucifixion where you poured out everything through Your suffering and death so I would have new life through You. “And accordingly, they offer Him gold as King, frankincense as God, myrrh as man” and I pray, Lord I offer my gifts to You and lay them at Your feet and follow You with the light of the great star to guide my heart.

Blessed Mother Mary, pray for me for the grace from God to grow in generosity and humility and to follow His will, not mine. Amen.

I wish you a blessed and joy filled New Year, much love Vikki.
