My Strong Tower

One of my favorite movie series is The Lord of the Rings. I have watched it many times and it brings me new insights the more I ponder its messages.

In my prayer time, I have been brought to a scene in the second series, The Two Towers. It is the end of the movie after the fierce battle of good and evil. The hobbits are at the scene of the tower that was conquered and the joy and celebration can be felt.

The battle of Helm’s deep was fierce, hard and seemed impossible but the good triumphed in the end. Many different peoples had to fight united together; men, women, elves, dwarves, hobbits, with their specific talents and gifts to be successful, even the trees came to aid in the battle.

The scene with the white wizard on the white horse galloping in bearing a great light was a particular moving moment in the movie of the light driving out the darkness. That we can not do it alone, but as a community great things can be accomplished. That when things seem impossible there is always hope.

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

When I feel alone, burdened and weighed down, I must remember that I belong to a community and it is not for me alone to deal with whatever may be pulling on me. That in trust, I can surrender it to the Lord and ask for help from those around me.

Lord, I thank you for the prayer time where you reveal your love to me. Lord, You show me that even in my weakness and littleness, I am part of Your army here on earth, and I am not to stop fighting for the good. I pray for the graces and help I need to follow You, Lord. You are my strong tower, my Lord and my God. Amen.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the just run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
