The Rose

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose.

There is something special about this Bette Midler song that I find myself returning to. It is a song of hope where beauty and life are brought forth by the light.

It is an invitation to hope, to live, to let go. It is a song of surrender.

Right now, I am halfway into praying a 9 day Surrender novena. I am praying this prayer at the request of someone else uniting my prayers with theirs for a special intention.

I did not expect to pray this particular prayer and a remarkable thing is happening in my life. It has personally affected my life.

Though I am not praying for myself but for another, the Lord has spoken to my heart, and in conjunction with my prayers, He has taken me into His arms to comfort me. I can surrender my cares to the Lord and He will accept them and bring me peace.

The Lord, in His love, knows me, and speaks to my heart through this novena. That like the rose, He brings forth beauty from beneath the snow, into new life not only for my prayer petition but for myself.

Thank you, Lord, for the abundance of Your love that shines down for all of us. For the gift of the rose which speaks to my heart. Amen.
