A Ray of Sunshine

Last week I received a visit while I was at work from a kind and generous lady. She brought me a beautiful hand written card and a bag of homemade baked goods from her and her family.

When she arrived, I assumed that her gifts were for someone else in the office and not for me. The thought did not occur to me that she came to see me.

She quickly let me know that she was indeed there for me, and she spent several minutes visiting with me. It made me feel special and cared for.

When I went home, I shared the treats with my family as well as passed along the card of well wishes. A ray of sunshine shone into the window, its light was felt in our home, and it became a brighter day.

This unexpected visit inspired me to look at things differently, to see with new eyes, and to be receptive to the gifts that are offered. Like the sunflower, to turn to the light and to receive the ray of sunshine. And like the sunflower, to know that I am part of a community, full of lovely people that the Lord has brought into my life.

It is no advantage to be near the light if the eyes are closed. St. Augustine

Thank you, Lord, for Your radiant light that always shines and for the reminder to turn towards it. Amen.
