In My Corner

This past week, I went on a girls trip with my daughters. We did not get a chance to do our traditional family vacation like we usually do in the summers. The kids are adults now, and schedules are harder to make time work for everyone. So, my husband and I came up with an idea. I take the girls, and he takes the boys on separate mother/daughter and father/son trips this year.

The girls must have list included a swimming pool and a beautiful place to stay that was relaxing. They wanted a place where we could do a little shopping, read books and swim.

Living in the area where we are, we have a lot of wonderful choices for road trips. We settled on a beautiful bed and breakfast on a hill overlooking the beautiful Great Lake, Superior. It had beautiful panoramic views of the water.

This particular bed and breakfast came with a sparkling pool, well manicured gardens, wrap around porches, and a lovely solarium. It was perfect.

We had a wonderful time shopping in the quaint stores, especially the local bookstore, taking the ferry over to the nearby island, eating ice cream, and spending quality time together at the B&B.

The trip coincided with the feast day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Mass was beautiful and simple in a Church that was built in the late 1800’s.

Back at the B&B, I was surprised by an image as I came around the corner of the breakfast area. It was a lovely drawing of the Blessed Mother.

The image was in a place not to be noticed and almost missed. I felt a sense of the humility of the Blessed Mother. How she is with me, in my corner, quietly and gently leading me to her Son, Jesus. That she always supports me as a Mother, constantly praying and interceding for me and my intentions.

I asked the Innkeeper about this particular piece of artwork. She said it was drawn in charcoal by the late owner of the house, while she was in France.

I want my daughters and sons to know that I am in their corner, praying and interceding for them. That I love them unconditionally with a mother’s heart.

I am grateful for this trip and all the memories that we carried home with us. It was a special time that I will cherish. Thank you girls, for spending time with your mother, know of my love for you.
