The Words I Speak

Words are powerful things, they can either lift up or tear down, they can encourage or discourage, they can bring peace or discord, words are important. They can be uttered in haste with little thought or be deliberate with concern. They can lead one into gossip or be kept to oneself in self control. They can be offered to God in prayer, in the secret of our heart, contemplating His power, His glory and His great love. I pray for the Holy Spirit to help me speak and pray as I ought to. For the grace to grow in charity for my neighbor.

It is definitely something I strive to work on daily; to stay close to the written word of God, to speak words of kindness, and to let my actions speak louder than words. When I fail, to recognize it, to repent, and to start again moving forward while placing my trust in the Lord.

Pleasing words are a honeycomb, sweet to the taste and healthful to the body. Proverbs 18:4

The unspoken word can be just as powerful as a spoken word, as it tells a story without an utter of sound. I find that nature has a way of speaking to my heart without words, using sight, sound and feeling to convey what it is saying to me at the time.

Water can be a great imitator of words, it can be a serene brook, a calm lake or a beautiful expanse of the sea or water can be a pounding rainstorm, a raging river or a tossing of waves in the middle of an ocean. The water can be dark and murky or it can be clear and sparkling. It can bring life or death, so is the way of words.

The words from a man’s mouth are deep waters but the source of wisdom is a flowing brook. Psalm 19:15

I hear the Lord speaking His words to me, He shows me through nature how to surrender one’s self and be at peace. That He is there in the calm and the storm and He is the living Word and my heart is full.

From the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. Matthew 12:34

Lord, create in me a clean heart, let my words first flow to you, my God and my Lord, in praise and in love. Help me to speak kindly to my neighbor. I pray for the grace of prudence and self control, to keep care of my heart, so goodness flows out which is the living water that brings life. Amen.
