Today is Ash Wednesday, a day of prayer and penance, a day to be solemn and still. It is a day of turning back to the Lord, a day of repentance and a day of fasting.
It is a time to grow closer to the Lord, following Him into the desert for 40 days. I have been praying about what the Lord is calling me to do in this season of Lent.
The word that keeps coming to me is “silence.”
Silence is God’s first language. Saint John of the Cross.
The plan I have decided on is the Hallo Lent challenge Pray 40 which includes reading the books, The Way, The Power of Silence, and A Song for Nagasaki, along with daily prayer meditations and journaling.
So I begin this time of detachment, I turn towards God and let Him lead the way. I pray for the graces I need to walk where He wishes to take me.
The Lord leads me into the desert. He is with me and I incline my ear in the dry, windy, and parched land and wait.
He speaks to my heart, and says, “My daughter, come, journey with Me, let us go deeper into the desert. Come, follow me.” I take a step forward, and embrace the silence, because my heart is ready.
Silence does good to the soul. Saint Therese of Lisieux.
