As my children get older and more mature and independent, I feel sad and happy at the same time. It is a bittersweet moment in a mother’s heart that lets them go but still wants to hold them close.
The memories surface when life was simpler when they were little. The visits to the zoo, taking them to the park, or swimming at the local pool. The summers spent camping in our tent trailer that included pancake breakfasts and nightly bonfires with s’mores. Playing games and going on hikes and riding bikes. Those are memories that I cherish.
All the firsts, the first – word, step, hug, day of school, lost tooth, pet, Christmas, riding a bike, broken bones, stitches, sleepover, driving a car, date, graduation, going off to college, moving out, getting engaged, and so on. So many firsts that are a beautiful part of our lives.
I feel so blessed that you are close brothers and sisters, but more importantly; best friends. I truly feel joy when you are together making new memories. More firsts that will be cherished in your hearts.
As I let go, just know that you are all in my heart; a Mother’s heart that loves you and holds you close. XO
The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother. St. Therese of Lisieux
