January in the great north can be a challenge. This is true when the days are endless clouds and the sun seems to have disappeared. I find myself surrounded with blanketed white snow, gray skies and crisp air.
My body feels tired and my mind unfocused. It takes effort to move from the weighing down of body and spirit; to make one simple change, which leads to another, to say “yes” and push through the heaviness. To see with new eyes, to notice what is right in front of you.
This past weekend, I attended an Improv Show. I needed to leave the comfort of my home, be with others and laugh. To be part of a crowd and feel joy, it was great for my soul.
The next day we celebrated a milestone birthday for my daughter. We had a party at home for her that was nothing fancy. It was a simple day of her favorite foods, playing games and a lot of silly giggles. It was perfect.
Laughter can break through the clouds, pierce the gray and let the light in It can shake you out of slumber and wake you up. It can show you a childlike response that adults seem to let go off. To rediscover the beauty of a laugh deep within, to let go and enjoy without overthinking the moment. Laughter is contagious, is spreads like wildflowers in a field.
Yes, the clouds are still there, but I see them anew, because I know that joy can reach even the gray and make it bright.
Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age. And dreams are forever. Walt Disney
