I am with you

This week I have been drawn in deeper to prayer. It seems the Lord is calling me to get closer to Him, to take His lead, and pray. But one of the things He has shown me this week, is that He is not in front of me. He is right beside me.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Mt 11:28-30

I was taken back to this summer when I first kayaked in a beautiful, peaceful lake. It was in a double kayak, and my husband was behind me. We had to be in sync with our motions of the paddle to move forward, or we would feel the pull of the water. We had to have our bodies working together, or we would feel the sway of the kayak. When I relaxed and let go to the natural rhythm of our paddling, it was as if we were gliding over a smooth piece of glass. I took in the scenery around me and felt an overwhelming sense of peace.

This is how it is with Jesus. He is right beside me, we are bound together and when we move in unison forward, one step at a time, I fail to notice how heavy the burden is. Because His shoulders that carried the cross, carries me, His feet that walked many dusty miles, walks with me, His hands that reached out to Peter, reach out to me, His eyes that looked at Veronica, look at me. His whole being is beside me. He is with me.

Above all, be firm and steadfast, taking care to observe the entire law which my servant Moses enjoined to you. Do not swerve from it either to the right or the the left, that you may succeed wherever you go. Do not fear or be dismayed, for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:7-9

He is with me, right by my side, where I am today. He looks at me and says – My daughter, I love you and I will always be next to you, connected to you, to move forward in unison. I am with you always.
