Awe and Wonder

When I look at the world with awe and wonder, I begin to see things anew. That in the midst of fear, there is also great love, and that is where I am drawn. The awe and wonder of God’s timing; an encouraging word being given, a prayer being said, a smile or greeting to another. When something that is little becomes great, and has a positive effect on a person.

That love casts out fear and hope enters, a hope that things will get better, that you are not alone, and that someone cares. To feel a connection with another person, to be shown a little glimpse of what they are going through, what they are carrying deep in their hearts, to share in a small part of their lives, to be let in; this is what it is to be human and to share vulnerabilities with each other.

A sharing of one’s life, using many words, a few or none at all. To feel with the heart, to be present, and to listen, all with the awe and wonder of God’s timing. That is what I am drawn to, the awe and wonder of love.

The human heart is always drawn by love. St. Catherine of Siena
