God Speaks

God speaks, God is always speaking. I don’t always hear His voice because other things beg for my attention and draw me away from God. But when I take the time, especially first thing in the morning, I can hear God speak to me.

It is a beautiful exchange and I find that there is always something new that comes from this special time. This past weekend, I had beautiful morning prayer time and this is the reflection I experienced that lovely fall morning.

As the sun rises in the darkness of the morning, I see a hint of light in the east. As time goes by, it is a gradual revealing of the beauty that surrounds me. The tall, majestic trees transform from dark silhouettes to beautiful ash, maple and pine trees with their leaves gently blowing in the cool morning breeze. The crisp fall air beckons their leaves to the ground. The sunlight shines on the clouds in the distance turning them a pale pink for an instant as if they received a kiss from God.

I sit with God in the still of the morning, on a beautiful fall day; and be with Him. His light touches me and He reveals truth to me. I feel like the tree with its leaves falling to the ground, God is gently shaking me to an awareness of misunderstandings, hurts, and areas of sin. I go where He leads and spend time contemplating what He is saying to me. A few things from my past are revealed to me, and I thank God for this gift. I can now bring them to Him for His healing and forgiveness. I lay them at His feet, and like the tree, I let go. Like the leaves, they are taken up in the wind and disappear, from my hands to His, and I receive peace.

He whispers to me, I love you. I whisper back, I love you too. God is speaking, God is always speaking.

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that He may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power through His spirit in the inner self, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19.
