It is hard to believe that my dad is gone. It has been over two weeks, and it still seems like a dream; a surreal time I am in.
It was a shock five years ago when his diagnosis of cancer was revealed. We knew it was terminal and were not sure how it would progress or how long he had. It was scary.
Over the last years, my father fought the good fight, through the pain and suffering, he continued on. He had a silly, funny and humorous personality, which stayed with him until the end.
The Lord was with him as he progressed through this illness, however my dad resisted embracing the faith. He did however have a great devotion to his guardian angel, and angels in general.
My parents were married at Guardian Angels church 59 years ago. It is a small, simple Church, that looks the same to this day. It reminds me of the way my dad lived his life, in the simplicity of love and service for the family.

After his diagnosis my dad would order pennies with an angel cutout in them. He would hand them out to family, friends, and the medical community as a symbol of the angels that strengthened him in his journey. He was appreciative of everyone who helped him and he was never alone in his walk.
His had a great love for my mother, and she was a wonderful caretaker for him. I witnessed their wedding vows being played out before my very eyes- in sickness and in health, and my mom never left his side. She had a special strength about her that I especially witnessed at the end, it was a true and pure love.
God is love and never stops pursuing his beloved children. It is the great love story, and He gathers us to be close to Him. My dad gave his yes to God at the end of his earthly life and received the sacrament of Baptism. He gave his yes to the love that God offered to him and officially entered into the community of Guardian Angels Church, and there was much joy and peace.
I am thankful for the gift of my father, and for his love and guidance over the years. I share in his love of travel, and the wonder it brings to explore new places. For his great witness of love and fidelity to my mom, and his care of us girls, me and my sister. Thank you for your service to our country in the Navy. Thank you for all the wonderful memories that we will cherish. Rest In His Heavenly Peace. Much love, your daughter. ❤️
