Meek and Humble of Heart

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves, For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11:28-30

For the past couple of months I have felt weighed down with a heavinesses that I didn’t understand. But, I finally had a breakthrough during my weekly prayer hour at Church.

I heard the Lord, silently in my heart, invite me to pray the Litany of Humility. I listened and I prayed.

From the very start of the prayer, the Lord showed me my struggle, it was pride.

The first line of the prayer is: O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, hear me.

The prayer continues with a litany of prayers asking the Lord to deliver me from worldly desires and fears. Then it goes on to pray for others and the grace needed to desire it.

As I began to pray, my eyes were opened to my pride, and I understood this is what I was struggling with, this is where the heaviness and burden came from. It suddenly made sense to me.

After praying the Litany of Humility, I immediately felt peace. Pride is a hard sin to see and recognize, but the Lord, in His love, kindness, and mercy, showed me the way to humility. To love God and my neighbor.

Lord, thank you for our special prayer time each week and for your patience as I learn from you. I, your little daughter, long for your love. I give you praise, honor and love, my God and my Lord. Amen.

Only you and God know your vices. I would have never gotten pride from you. You are beautiful and blessed in your humbleness and devotion to our Lord Jesus.
