Our Lady of the Rosary

This past Saturday was the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary, which is celebrated in the Church on October 7th. This is also the day, just a few days ago, that the phone rang with the news that my Mother in law, Mary, had passed away.

My heart ached at that moment and still aches for such sudden a loss and the tears have been flowing. I thought there was more time and I had looked forward to a planned visit at Thanksgiving. Memories have inundated me and everything reminds me of her.

She loved her family so much, especially her sons, and she loved being a mother and grandmother. She experienced heartbreak in her life and she experienced joy in her life. She had a spirit of generosity and I will miss her.

Some things that we had in common were a love of movies, books, coffee, and time spent at home. She would tell me of her travels to Japan and Germany, and the beautiful sites she got to visit. I treasure the memories in my heart, they are sweet, like the scent of roses.

I am grateful to have known Mary, and blessed by her example of love, Rest In Peace. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us. Amen.
