Heart to Heart

Last week I attended a 7-day silent retreat at a serene, picturesque location in beautiful Colorado.

It was a time to be with the Lord and embrace the silence. I quickly entered into a daily routine and felt an order and calm that I had not felt in a long time.

In the silence, sounds become more pronounced. The chirp of a bird, raindrops on the windowpane, thunder rumbling, leaves rustling in the wind, cows mooing in the distance, silverware clicking on plates, footsteps down the hall, the flutter of a hummingbird, the buzzing of a bee.

The silence begs me to notice the breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart.

I felt as if I stepped through a doorway and was transported to another world where peace and quiet are found.

He leads me beside waters of rest; He restores my life. Psalm 23

A place surrounded by distant mountains, rolling hills, majestic trees, and blue sky that stretched far into the distance.

A place where rabbits, deer, turkeys, butterflies, and birds can be seen and observed with awe and wonder.

A place where purple wildflowers and yellow cactus flowers feel handpicked for me.

A place to be still and know. A place to be at home.

Everywhere I am, I am at home. St. Therese of Lisieux

I am grateful for the time of prayer, healing, and rest. The Lord provided for me abundantly and I felt loved and cared for.

Heart to heart, the Lord embraced me and like the Good Samaritan tended to me. I have a deep peace and joy that has resonated within me that is pure gift from the Lord.

I was made aware during my time on retreat that the burdens or heaviness that I carry, I can invite the Lord into those places to share in them. I don’t need to lock those places away or try to get rid of them. I can face them with the Lord, which was an “aha” moment for me.

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves, For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Matthew 11:28-30

I thank you Lord, for your friendship and love. I am grateful for the retreat time. All glory and praise to You. Amen.
