Fears and Tears

The Mass reading on Sunday from St. Paul to the Romans brought my mind to the Holy Spirit.

In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.

And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will. ^{Romans 8:26-27}

There are many descriptions for the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Most Holy Trinity; Comforter, Helper, Teacher, Intercessor, Counselor, and Spirit of Truth to name a few.

Having a consistent prayer life has been difficult for me. I make a plan that starts out well but quickly falls apart. And I realize that I need to surrender my way and follow God’s way. I turn to the Holy Spirit for help.

I invite the Holy Spirit into my prayer life to teach me to pray as I ought. Whether it is the stillness of the morning, the busyness of the day, or winding down in the evening, I pray the Holy Spirit leads me and I receive the grace to follow. Amen.
