He restores my soul

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. In green pastures he makes me lie down; to still waters he leads me; He restores my soul. He guides me along right paths for the sake of his name. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me. You set a table before me in front of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the Lord for endless days. Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is typically prayed or sung at funerals. However, I turn to these beautiful words when I am feeling overwhelmed and anxious. It is a great comfort to spend time with them; each word settles my restless soul.

The words transport me to a vast green meadow. The Lord is there, and I follow Him. We walk together in silence. It is still and peaceful.

We come upon still waters and sit beside them. When the storms come and the waves crash about me, the Lord is by my side and shelters me.

We rise and continue on the path. I cannot see too far in the distance. The farther I go the path narrows and I follow behind the Lord. When the way becomes steep, He takes my hand, and I am able to continue the climb.

He leads me where I am to go. I follow Him, one step at a time. He is my Lord, and my God, and He restores my soul.
